It’s a new year and the new spring fashions are about to hit the runway. Stylists and cosmetologists should take notice of the hair and makeup that the models are wearing for the spring collections. Many of those haute couture dresses will be one of a kind, but the hair and makeup are far more likely to begin new trends. Here’s what to expect in 2016.
I Got the Blues
Blue eye shadow is not just for the 80’s anymore – it’s back, and better than ever! Models have been sighted on the runways sporting various shades of blue over their entire eyelids or in a small streak. It’s clear that anything goes, from making a bold statement to going a more subtle route with light, pastel shades.
Big Talk
Forget the nude-toned lipstick this season and go for something bold! We’re talking bright shades of pink, orange, and crimson. Tone down the rest of your face to accentuate your pouty lips. You can still rock a bold eyebrow, but keep your eye makeup to a minimum.
All that Sparkles
Glitter is no longer just for the elementary art room – for a fresh look, add glitter, jewels, lace, pearls, and even crocodile skin to your makeup bag! An easy way to try out the trend is to add some glitter to your eyelids or bedazzle your eyebrows. Don’t forget to get your fingernails in on the glitter action – sparkly nails are hot!
French Tips
While we’re talking about fingernails, French manicures are making a major comeback, too, but not how you might think. Sure, the traditional French manicure is a great look for any bride-to-be, but this year is all about being bold and thinking outside the box. Instead of a white tip, opt for something that will pop, like lime green, silver, or red. And forget the same old, boring straight lines – anything goes, especially angular lines!
Dreaded Do
Harpers Bazaar reported that, surprisingly, dreaded hair was spotted on the runway and it is easy to replicate without the permanence of actual dreads. Grab two-inch sections of hair and twist tightly. Run your flat iron over each section. Once you’ve finished all of your hair, gently loosen each section and spritz with texturizing spray.
Faux Freckles
Cosmopolitan shared that sun-kissed, freckled look is hotter than ever. If you are blessed with freckles naturally, don’t cover them up! Even if you do not naturally have freckles, you can create faux freckles for that hot just-off-the-runway look! Instead of buying a brand new freckle pencil, try using your brown eyeliner pencil or a nude lip pencil.
One thing is abundantly clear about New York’s Fashion Week. Clothing is not the only thing making bold statements on the runway. Hair and makeup trends are just as hot, and you can achieve any of these looks with ease! Maybe your mom still has some blue eye shadow from her heyday that you could borrow for your next night out.
