New year, new looks. Keep your clients looking chic with the latest trends in hair, nails and make-up. While colors never seen in nature were big in 2015, that’s not the case this year. Artifice is waning, while natural is making a strong comeback. Six beauty trends in particular are poised to take over in 2016.
Bangs are Back
Short hair has been trending for quite some time, and shows no sign of slowing down in 2016. A short, cheekbone length bob with bangs is a current top look. The natural look extends to all types of hair, so encourage clients to embrace their genetic heritage. You can accentuate the positive whether the hair is straight or curly, fine or thick. This year, it’s all about doing right by texture. Even curly-haired customers can enjoy bangs when you cut their hair true to texture. If your client wears her hair long, she might want textured layers. There’s so much versatility to the look, although regular trimming is necessary to maintain it.
Hair Color Au Naturel
Top hair shades stay in vogue with natural theme of 2016. “Only her hairdresser knows for sure,” was a top hair color advertising slogan back in the Mad Men days, and it’s just as true this year. For blondes, it’s that sun-kissed look, as if your client spent her days lounging on the beach rather than working in an office. For brunettes, warm, rich chocolate brown is in. Ombre highlights give dark hair that textured look so often seen this season.

The Year of Accessories
Accessorized hair is in this year, with colorful, playful pieces for young women and classic, bejeweled pieces for those with more time on the planet. Headbands and ribbons, made of satiny or velvety materials, give heads a luxurious look at little cost.
News on Nails
Perhaps nothing screams “last year” like a recently popular, but now passé, nail trend. Keep your clients up to date with 2016’s hot nail look. While thin French tips don’t go out of style, this year’s fashion includes slightly thicker tips on clear polished nails, and sleek color contrasting, with dark shades used for tipping. Nail shape this year is natural and last season’s squared-off “coffin” nail shape is dead and buried.
Glitter and Smoke
Smoky eyes are still au courant in 2016, with a slightly more subtle look. That’s great for daytime, but at night, bring out the glitter. In the year of the natural look, false eyelashes buck the trend for evenings on the town.
Lips Return to Basics
Discard the off-the-wall lipsticks – 2016 is a return to classic shades. That means deep red, pink and the darker shades of burgundy are the go-to colors, along with neutral and nude lipsticks. The luscious, pouty look is still in – it’s a classic in its own right.
