Most parents imagine that they will do anything for their kids. When push came to shove, one single dad showed that he would do exactly that when he pulled himself up beyond his comfort zone in order to help his daughter look and feel superb about her young self.

Any dad can learn about beauty at cosmetology school.
Meet a One-of-a-Kind Dad
Greg Wickherst may not be a prime example of what you envision the average cosmetology student to be. The single dad was once a Navy technician, and he now lives in Pueblo, Colorado, where he shares custody of his daughter with his ex-wife. Greg has primary custody, though, and he and his almost-three-year-old daughter Izzy spend most of their days together.
The Problem
All was going well. That is, everything was fine until Greg realized that he needed to style Izzy’s hair. He has a shaved head, so hairstyles for himself aren’t a concern. Yet he couldn’t brush Izzy’s hair into a nice style, and he could barely get it to stay in a sloppy pony tail. Clearly, he needed some help, and he turned to cosmetology school to get it.

Cosmetology school can serve many purposes in someone’s life.
The Solution
Wickherst decided to enroll in cosmetology courses, although he had no career ambitions in the field. He simply wanted to be able to give Izzy some awesome hairdos. Ashley Rivera, a stylist who teaches at the Pueblo campus of IntelliTec Colleges where the single dad also works, taught him some quick and easy hairstyles for Izzy to get them started.
Among the hairstyles that Greg is now able to pull off with ease and a fair amount of expertise are French braids, traditional braids for ponytails, and fishbone braids. He can also fix inverted ponytails and stylish regular ponytails without a loose strand in sight. Now that is progress and dedication to cosmetology classes!
Breaking the Mold
Greg Wickherst says that his experience has taught him that parents should kick stereotypes to the curb. Parents need to show up in the lives of their children in whatever ways they are needed, whether it is a dad who goes to cosmetology school or a mom who maybe learns moves in football so she can help her son with practice after work. He was simply motivated by his love for his child.
Conclusion
Although Greg admits that it is really tough to be a single dad, he focuses more on how very rewarding it is. He and Izzy are a strong team, and he has proved himself to be prepared to tackle any challenges in his path in order to help improve the life of his young daughter.
